A Beautiful Childbirth | A Pain-Free Delivery

I’m very excited to share this with you! This is my personal testimony of how God gave me a beautiful childbirth and how I had a pain-free delivery. In fact, I didn’t realize that I was in labor and I almost had my son at home.

Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.” 1 Timothy 2:15

What I am going to share with you is a private and personal matter to me. And I am a very private person. I am only writing to you about this because I truly believe that God is going to use my testimony to encourage women like yourself.

So, if you are a man and are for some reason reading this post, then please click off and go read something about creating a man cave.

Preparing For Baby Delivery

I’m going to begin when I had my 36-week check-up. We had just moved into our new home and I was in the process of getting things unpacked. Our little foster baby was growing like a weed and I was loving every minute of this new phase in our lives.

God had opened up doors, it seemed like, all at once! Everything was a whirlwind.

I went to see my doctor on a Thursday for my 36-week check-up. After he examined me, he told me that he believed we would see our baby boy a little earlier than we expected because my cervix was already open.

That made me a little excited but I didn’t think he would come too early.

I still had some things to get done around the house before his arrival. Thankfully, his room was freshly painted, decorated, furniture set up and awaiting his arrival.

I asked the doctor what were some signs to look for in labor, not because I thought he would be coming anytime soon, but because I like to plan ahead and make sure I have all of my ducks in a row.

He told me the necessary things to do and signs to look for that lead up to labor and delivery. He told me how far apart the minutes should be and when to head to the hospital.

The following Sunday, we went on with our normal routine. I was on the Sunday morning praise team and I was giving the Lord the praise He is due through my worship.

By Sunday afternoon I started not feeling very well. I thought maybe I was coming down with a small cold because I just felt tired, drained and a little achy. I had a few small Braxton Hicks that day but it wasn’t anything to be concerned about.

Contractions Or Braxton Hicks?

Early Monday morning at 4 am, I woke up with a sharp pain. It was stronger than the Braxton Hicks that I had been having and I knew that it was a contraction.

I kept having the contractions and I kept a watch on the timing of them. They were coming about 10-15 minutes apart and I told my husband that I would call the doctor if they kept coming.

The contractions weren’t anything painful or too serious, just a little stronger than normal and more consistent.

By 8:30 am they had subsided and I went on about my day. Every now and then throughout the day, I would have a small contraction and I would wait it out.

Seeing that these contractions weren’t too strong and were hours apart there was no need for me to be concerned about labor coming soon. A sister of mine had contractions for weeks before she had her children and so I assumed that was what was going on with me. My body was just getting prepared for the weeks to come.

At around 8 pm, the contractions started coming back more consistent and I thought I needed to keep track of them just to be on the safe side. They started coming around 10 minutes apart. I kept on with my normal routine, although I was still not feeling the best.

When I went to bed around 10 pm I could not get comfortable. I would toss and turn and just could not find the right position to lay in because the contractions were beginning to feel uncomfortable.

So I told my husband that I was going to get up and see if it would subside. He went on to sleep and told me to wake him if I needed anything. I told him I would come to bed a little later on.

Scriptures For Childbirth

As I began walking around my house, I began praying and thanking God for what was happening. I thanked Him for the things that I felt and how my body was preparing to deliver our child.

I had read two book years before we conceived called “Supernatural Childbirth” and the other one called “Prayers and Promises for Supernatural Childbirth”, both by the same author.

You see, I had prayed the prayers that were designed around having a pain-free childbirth. And I had read the scriptures and highlighted them in my Bible that spoke of bearing children and childbirth and delivery.

I had read the testimonies in the books given by women who had actually experienced pain-free deliveries. Years before, I had written down a birthing plan of how I wished my labor and delivery would go.

I prayed, I believed and now here I was about to experience something so very new, exciting and a little frightening all at the same time.

I walked the same path throughout my house while I had contractions and prayed the whole time.

I walked down the hall, through the living room, around to the kitchen, through the dining room and back down the same hall. It made a circle and I wore that circle out. I did ask God that even though I wanted a pain-free delivery (or as painless as He saw fit), that I did need a sign or warning in my body that it was time to go to the hospital.

After a little while, the contractions began to intensify…not painful, just deeper.

I kept a watch on the timing and realized that they were becoming closer as time went on. I told myself that if it got so intense that I could not walk, then I would head to the hospital.

After a short period of time they became that intense but all the while, still not terribly painful. So I was confused as to what I needed to do. I kept thinking that because I wasn’t writhing in pain that this was false labor and they would send me home. By this time my contractions were definitely 5 minutes apart.

A Blessed Labor

At 11:45 pm, I woke my husband up and told him that I thought it was time to go to the hospital. While freshening up and brushing my teeth, I wondered in my mind if I should actually go.

I mean it wasn’t really that bad yet, was it? I already had the bags prepared and off we went to the hospital. By this time the contractions were coming strong enough that I had to stop talking or walking when they came. I went in and did the necessary paperwork and got checked in.

I walked to the second floor to the Labor and Delivery department and told them that I was in labor.

The nurse looks at me and says “You’re in labor?”, with a quizzical look on her face. I said, “I’m pretty sure I am, I’m having contractions”. So she tells me to step on the scale and then off to the labor and delivery suite I went.

By this time it was just after 12 am and I had been having steady contractions since 8 pm. I told Blake not to call our family until they had examined me because I did not want this to be a false alarm and get everyone’s hopes up.

The first young nurse examines me and tells me that I am definitely in labor and had dilated to a 3. She then gets another nurse to examine me just to make sure of how far I was dilated.

The second, more experienced nurse, examines me and tells me that I am not at a 3, but I was already dilated to a 6. Excuse me?

Wow, this was going fast. So they call the doctor, and Blake gets on the phone and starts calling family members.

After a little bit, I began to get nervous because the doctor had not shown up yet. I definitely wanted some type of medicine for my delivery and I was already at a 6 and he was the only person that could administer the medicine.

At one point, one of the nurses told me “Honey, you sure are handling those contractions and you don’t even have medicine!”.

During the time while we were waiting on the doctor to arrive, we were in the room joking around and talking with the nurses and enjoying the process.

I remember having to stop talking once the contractions started. I would wait it out and once the contraction ended, I would start back talking and acting as though nothing had happened. Yes, they were strong and intense and very uncomfortable, but it was nothing like I thought I would be experiencing.

As things progressed, they put my feet in the stirrups and I asked why they were doing that. They told me that this baby was ready to come and that I would be delivering soon.

A Pain-Free Delivery

It was all happening so fast. I had the idea that we would arrive at the hospital, we would get settled in our delivery suite, our family would arrive and we would anxiously await for our little guy to arrive. Boy was I wrong!

Once the doctor walked in, he examined me and I was already dilated to an 8. He told me that I was past the opportunity to receive the epidural but there was something called an intrathecal that he could give me.

He explained what it was and how it would be administered. I quickly agreed and told him to do whatever he needed.

When he examined me he told me that my water had not broken yet and that once the medicine had taken effect, he would go ahead and break it. Well lo and behold, just before I lost feeling in my legs I felt something like liquid.

The doctor came back in and was ready to break my water and get the show on the road. I told him that I thought my water had broken and he confirmed that it had already happened.

Just that quick, I was already dilated to a 10 and ready to have my baby. I have no idea how long I pushed because everything happened so fast.

I had been pushing for a while and was starting to get tired and my doctor told me that he could tell I was getting tired but the baby was right there. Then He told me that he was going to give me a little help and use the suction vac to get him out.

My doctor asked the nurses to get the suction vac prepared and while that happened I felt a little urge to push. He looked at me and asked if I needed to push and I nodded yes. He said “Well, come on. You can do this!”.

My sweet husband was standing beside me and he started praying for God to give me the strength to push this baby out, my doctor and the nurses were cheering me on and out that baby boy came.

The Miracle Of God’s Promise

The first words out of my mouth when I saw my son in the arms of the nurse were “He’s so tiny!”. And he was.

He entered into this world at 2:44 am weighing 4lbs 9ozs and was 16 ½ inches long. That baby boy had a head full of red hair. He was born exactly 3 weeks early.

I had walked into the hospital at 12 am and 2 hours and 44 minutes later, I laid eyes on my son.

It happened just that fast and was a whirlwind.

I am thankful to say that although he was tiny and 3 weeks early, he did not have to be in NICU or have an extended stay at the hospital. He was healthy and I was allowed to take him home with the orders to bring him in for a daily weigh-in to chart his growth.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again when God does something, He does it perfectly.

This child that I birthed was a miracle from the very beginning. And I believe that my easy childbirth was due to many prayers that I had prayed and believing on scriptures that I had read in the Bible concerning childbirth.

In God’s Word, it says that He is no respecter of persons. Meaning that if He can do it for one, He can do it for another.

I am agreeing with you this day that you can have an easy Labor and Delivery. I would encourage you to purchase these two books and speak over each scripture. They give specific prayers to pray over your child and specific scriptures.

I was a little skeptical about the books when I first began reading them, but I am a living testimony of God’s work!

Philippians 1:6 says “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

Much love,

  1. Wow! Tear-jerker! What can be said… Our God is an AWEsome and Amazing God! His timing is meticulous, His Word true.
John 14:13-14 came to mind as I read. It reads: 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. (KJV)
What we do know is that our God never fails regardless of what the outcome is. Again, thank you for using this platform that He has given you to encourage us women (and possibly men who might have read it instead of reading on how to create their man cave, LOL). I will and desire to birth a child if it be God’s will. I will definitely purchase, read and re-read the books you recommended.
I also cannot forgot to give kudos to Mr. B who took his rightful place and prayed for and over you during that time. Glad he didn’t pass out, lol. Truly, you are a gem from God! Blessings, B <3

    • If you purchase these two books, get your highlighter ready for the book and for your Bible! And you are so right, our God never fails. He is faithful to complete what He begins. And Blake did awesome! He was by my side fanning my face the entire time.

    • Thank you! I agree with you, Childbirth is amazing!
I had always been fearful of giving birth, just because of stories I’ve heard. But it is a beautiful thing to experience, and nothing to be afraid of at all.
