How To Connect During Shelter In Place
I never thought I would see the day where we’re asked to stay away from all of the important people in our lives, did you?
Our family, friends, co-workers, and acquaintances have become a very normal part of our lives. All of a sudden we are asked to step away and not congregate. We’re asked to only be 6 feet away from someone.
If you’re like me, the church is your everything! You are involved and love being a part of God’s Kingdom and that has been swiped away for the time being.
I’m southern, I’m a hugger, I’m a talker, and I love to socialize! This can put a halt on everything that most people are about.
You all of a sudden lose the connection with your church family, your close friends that you have coffee with, your friends who are like family or your extended family, and co-workers.
Shelter In Place Connect
Here are many ways that you can still stay connected while being shelter in place.
Send a Text
Make a list of your co-workers, family, friends and church family who you would like to contact throughout the next few weeks.
You have no idea how just a simple text letting them know that you are thinking of them and praying for them will do for someone.
Ask them a question. Be sincere. Be engaged.
Make a Phone Call
This isn’t something that most people enjoy doing now days. A phone call will lift someone’s spirits! Hearing your voice and the concern that you have for that person will let them know how much you care.
Send a Letter through Mail
I don’t know about you, but I love receiving cards and letters in the mail. This is something that is such a special thing and you know that someone has taken the time to think about you.
My sister has always been very good about sending cards to people who are in our “circle”. It always brightens my day to get something.
Send a small card or a short letter to someone and make them smile!
Send an E-mail
While I feel that an e-mail is a little impersonal, it will still do the job of staying connected with your friends and family. There are better ways to connect with people with so many options available to us today to be more personal. But this is still a nice way to reach out to someone and connect with them.
FaceTime
This is an amazing way to connect while shelter in place. Especially for the people who love seeing others face to face. Grab a few of your friends, get a cup of coffee, set a time and have a virtual coffee date! Enjoy your time with your friends and catch up with how they are doing.
Zoom Call
This is a way to have video conferences and have multiple people on a video call at one time.
This is a great way for connecting with many family members at once.
You could gather ladies from your church and host an online Bible Study using zoom. Send the girls a time and date and tell them to bring their favorite snack and drink and take this time to dive into the Word of God. It is much needed.
This would also be a great way to host a Virtual Baby Shower!
Check out my friend Elizabeth at Mama Fearless, she has a fun article about how to have a Virtual Baby Shower while sheltering in place.
Regardless of how you choose to connect with others during shelter in place, just take time to reach out to someone. You never know how much it will strengthen and encourage someone.
It will do your spirit a world of good as well.
